Hello. For those who might not know me, my name is Tim Turner and I am the new director of the Mt. Baker Leadership Camp. The photo above means a great deal to me. Sandy Stonebreaker was the first director of Baker. She passed the torch to Marty Fortin who was the director for over thirty years. I obviously have some gigantic shoes to fill!
First a little bit about me. I teach English and AVID at Richland High School. I have been on the Baker camp staff since 2002 as an SC and three years ago I became the assistant director. Since 2004, I have served on the executive board of the Washington Activity Coordinators Association as an area rep, technology coordinator, president, and now as the certification coordinator. I've been involved in leadership and student activities for my entire 32-year teaching career. I've taught leadership, been an activities director and ASB advisor, class and club advisor, and have coached four sports. My leadership roots run deep.
I was named the Baker director by AWSL on March 10. Within a week, the world went crazy due to COVID-19. Little did I know back then that all summer programs would be shut down because of the virus. However, leadership and activities people are world-renowned for being flexible and adaptable. Summer 2020 didn't go as planned, but that just means that Summer 2021 is going to be that much better.
